It was reported in the Bahama Gazette that on this day in 1787 the vessel Nonsuch from Bristol, England bound for Baltimore, Maryland ran on shore at Hatteras Island. The vessel was damaged severely and thought to be unsalvageable. The crew was rescued by a schooner from Baltimore that was bound to Nassau. Map of Hatteras Island and nearby vicinity by John Collet, 1770.
