On this day in 1824 the schooner Susan was lost while crossing the bar at Ocracoke Inlet. The vessel was enroute from the Demerara Harbor at Georgetown, Guyana, South America to Philadelphia. All onboard survived. This map shows the departure location (green star), intended destination (red star) and location of the wreck (black X). It is not known what was onboard the Susan but brown cane sugar and rum were common exports from the region.
